Sonny served his whole career in the Navy and then retired next door to me. He probably wasn’t expecting three loud, obnoxious boys to interrupt the retiree neighbor norm in our ‘hood. Sorry, Sonny.
But, Sonny makes some serious noise of his own.
He rides his motorcycle every.single.day. Well, okay, not if it’s snowing.
Sonny easily clears 80 as far as years go, sporting a white buzz cut and a bit of a limp. But, while I’m shoveling forkfuls of leftover pasta in my mouth on my self-employed “lunch break,” Sonny dons his patched-up jacket, leather gloves, and biker boots, and rolls out.
When we first moved in, Sonny drove an ENORMOUS blue Harley. I think age is getting to the dear guy, because he recently traded in his bike for a trike.
But hey, there’s no shame because for Sonny, it’s wheels or wither.
Logo Design for Sonny’s Dream Business
Okay, so my octogenarian neighbor does not really run a motorcycle company. But, I’m 99.8% sure he would if money were no object (and he was 20+ years younger).
In honor of Veteran’s Day, I wanted to create a logo for Sonny’s dream motorcycle business.
The only problem?
I couldn’t stop at just one.
Motorcycle Logo Concepts
When sketching out ideas for a motorcycle logo, I wrote words like grungy, edgy, rebellious.
Yes, there are square guys in collared oxfords with navy ties, chinos, and white New Balance tennies that ride motorcycles. But, deep down, they all probably wish their wardrobe contained more leather, skulls, and metal studs.
For bikers, it’s good to (look) bad.
In addition to the rowdy biker boy feel, I also dreamed of a retro look that would give Sonny’s logo a classic touch.
Think: rolling out on a 50s-inspired cross-country motorcycle road trip, wolfing down burgers in greasy spoon diners, sipping beers at biker bars along the way.
And Sonny says, yesssssss….!
Okay, so the rough and retro looks have been covered. But, there’s one more aesthetic I always reach for because it’s always in style.
Whenever I give a client logo options, I include several clean concepts. This reflects my personal preference – I love simple lines, shapes, and lines of text that look good on their own.
As such, I couldn’t leave Sonny’s Motorcycles hangin’ without following my standard m.o.
And yes, when you’re my client, if you hate clean logos, your wishes override my personal preferences!
How awesome sauce is that shirt?! I just might order one of those for Sonny for Christmas. Love ya, neighbor!
TWO Special Logo Design Offers for Veteran – Owned Businesses
I live in an area heavily-populated with vets.
Many businesses proudly state “Veteran Owned and Operated,” and I think that rocks. Most of my neighbors served in the military, and, like you, many of my friends and family did as well.
Some return home after their service with amazing job opportunities. Some feel like they don’t fit anywhere, so their start their own company.
It’s hard to start your own business – I know. There’s never enough money, time, or help.
To say thank you to our military and their families, I’m gifting veteran-owned businesses one of TWO deals:
- 25% off a Logo Design for YOUR business or
- FREE Letterhead and Business Card design when you hire me to design your logo
I love to design logos, and I love to give back. Thank YOU veterans for your service – and Happy Veteran’s Day!
To hire me to design your company’s logo, please email me to get started! For my civilian friends, which logo do you think Sonny would like best??
